When life changes

Know when to make changes to your benefits

Whether you’re having a baby or getting married, Qualifying Life Events (QLEs) must be reported to the Benefits department so you can make necessary changes to your benefit elections.

Changes due to a QLE must be submitted within 31 days of the qualifying event date and are effective the first day of the month following the event. The only exception is for newborns or newly adopted children, whose coverage is effective on their date of birth or adoption.

Common QLEs include:

  • Change in marital status, such as marriage, divorce, or death of a spouse
  • Change in the number of dependents, including birth, adoption, or legal guardianship
  • Change in your spouse’s employment status resulting in a gain or loss of coverage
  • Change in your employment status resulting in a gain or loss of coverage
  • Enrollment in Medicare or Medicaid

Note: Before changes are approved, documentation is required. Review the Dependent Eligibility Matrix for proof requirements.

Dental care at home

Receive a free oral health screening

If you’re enrolled in a dental plan but avoid dental visits due to cost, inconvenience, or dental anxiety, SmartScan provides a fast, free, and painless way to stay on top of your oral health.

SmartScan is an at-home dental screening tool that allows you to use your smartphone to take guided photos of your teeth.
Within minutes, you’ll receive a professional assessment from a Cigna Healthcare dentist. This screening does not replace a full dental exam and X-rays, which remain important for protecting your oral health.

*SmartScan screenings are available at no additional cost for those enrolled in a Cigna dental plan.

How it works

  • Take guided photos of your teeth and mouth using your smartphone
  • Upload your photos to dental.com for review by artificial intelligence and a Cigna Healthcare network dentist
  • Receive a report with an overall oral health rating

A green rating indicates healthy oral status. Yellow or red ratings allow you to book a teledentistry appointment or receive a referral to a Cigna Healthcare Dental in-network provider.

    Wellness redefined

Find out how preventive care opportunities have expanded

Preventive screenings are an important part of your well-being, allowing for early detection of health issues and reducing the risk of serious illness. Being proactive with your health can have a huge impact on your quality of life.
Preventive services are important, which is why we’ve removed age limits for things like colorectal, cervical, diabetes and lung cancer screenings, mammograms and more if you’re enrolled in a Banner medical plan. Additionally, to allow for more convenient scheduling, you’ll be able to receive these screenings once every plan year, instead of every 12 months.

In addition to this expanded coverage, you’ll have more ways to earn MyWell-Being points by:

    • Scheduling your preventive screenings—600 points (3X/year)
    • Encouraging loved ones to schedule preventive screenings—300 points (3X/year)
    • Completing preventive screenings—1,000 points (3X/year)

Make 2025 the year to achieve optimal wellness—schedule preventive screenings and encourage your loved ones to do so as well.

Banner|Aetna plans provide several points of access for your health care needs, helping you receive care at the right location, saving you time and money (i.e., if you go to the ED and your condition is determined a non-emergency, the medical expense might not be covered). Banner earns Great Place To Work certification

Find out how we earned this designation together as One Team

Congratulations, as One Team we’ve become a certified Great Place To Work.

The certification is a national designation measuring workplace culture and tells the world we exemplify qualities of an extraordinary workplace—one where you trust the people you work for, have pride in what you do and enjoy the people you work with.

We submitted an application outlining our benefits, programs and initiatives designed to support and care for our teams. As a part of the certification process, a comprehensive survey was sent to 5,000 team members earlier this year asking about trust, pride, leadership and communication. The results showed that 76% believe we’re a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company.

“This recognition belongs to every team member and reflects the profound impact they have in the communities we serve,” says Amy Perry, president and CEO, in response to the certification news. “You truly make Banner a great place to work.”

This certification enhances our reputation and assists us in recruiting and retaining top talent. It also signals to our patients and visitors that we not only care about our teams but also work with the best and brightest.

We’ve also recently been recognized for the second year in a row on Newsweek’s list of Most Trustworthy Companies in America as one of the top 10 hospitals or health systems, as well as a three-year champion of Fortune’s America’s Most Innovative Companies list.
